Juli-Ann Riley is the founder of Riley Physiotherapists and has been running a multi-site practice in the Upper Highway area since 2003. She remains actively involved in all aspects of the practice, from clinical care and day-to-day operations to staff development and mentoring. Juli leads a skilled team of physiotherapists and is passionate about guiding and supporting young professionals in their clinical growth, while continuing to provide hands-on, high-quality physiotherapy herself.

The main branch is located at The Gillitts Medical Centre, Durban, KwaZulu Natal. There are also rooms in Kloof (Femina Health) and Hillcrest (Le Domaine Health). Additionally, consultations are provided in all nursing homes and private homes in the upper highway, for those that cannot come to us. We make physiotherapy accessible and provide the personal touch.

We are a small team that can offer this personalised treatment, but are large enough to offer an accessible and comprehensive physiotherapy service, with expertise, additional training and experience across the various physiotherapy fields.

She graduated with a BSc in Physiotherapy from the University of Stellenbosch in 1999 and, aside from a year working in the UK, has dedicated her entire career to private physiotherapy practice.

Juli’s clinical expertise lies in musculoskeletal and orthopaedic conditions, chronic pain management, sports injuries, women’s health and complex cases. Her work in the management of chronic pain is nationally recognised: she was among the first South African practitioners to be trained as a Pain Ambassador through the International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP). She has provided lectures and training to healthcare professionals on pain principles, rehabilitation, and manual therapy.

She completed the prestigious postgraduate Orthopaedic Manual Therapy course with distinction, earning top student honours and Juli went on to lecture and examine for this program for over a decade. She has presented at national physiotherapy congresses and contributed to professional education on topics including orthopaedic physiotherapy, ethical practice, and private practice management.

Juli’s academic contributions include published research on lumbar radiculopathy and “pinched nerves” in the South African Journal of Physiotherapy. She is also trained in the PGAP (Progressive Goal Attainment Program) and the Low Back and Neck Stratification program, enhancing her ability to support patients in returning to work after injury or illness.

Her professional leadership has extended beyond the clinic, having served as the KZN Chairperson for both Orthopaedic Manual Therapy and Animal Physiotherapy, and as a longstanding representative for Physiotherapy Private Practitioners.

Outside the clinic, Juli is passionate about the outdoors and staying active. She enjoys scuba diving, bodyboarding, paddling (including completing two solo Dusi Canoe Marathons), and spending time in nature. She is also deeply committed to animal welfare and shares her home with numerous rescue dogs. Her dedication to relieving suffering—whether in people or animals—is at the heart of everything she does.
